Required App Store screenshot sizes, by platform

Screenshots are required per platform, at specific sizes, one to ten per size, as .jpg, .jpeg or .png with no alpha channel or transparency. A PNG exported from a simulator screenshot often carries an alpha channel and is rejected on upload.

Why it matters

iPhone requires 6.9 inch at 1320 by 2868, or 6.5 inch at 1284 by 2778 instead. iPad requires 13 inch at 2064 by 2752.

Mac accepts any 16:10 landscape size among 1280 by 800, 1440 by 900, 2560 by 1600 and 2880 by 1800. Apple TV requires 1920 by 1080 or 3840 by 2160. Apple Vision Pro requires 3840 by 2160.

Apple Watch requires one size used consistently across every localization: 422 by 514 for Ultra 3, 416 by 496 for Series 11 and 10, 396 by 484 for Series 9 to 7, 368 by 448 for Series 6 to 4 and SE, or 312 by 390 for Series 3.

Everything else scales down from the required size, iPhone from 6.9 inch through 6.5, 6.3, 6.1, 5.5, 4.7, 4 and 3.5 inch, and iPad from 13 inch through 12.9, 11, 10.5 and 9.7 inch, so you upload the largest and the rest follow.

Which sizes you need depends on which platforms the app ships on, and that is decided by the project rather than by preference: a watch target in the project means the watch screenshot requirement applies.

Creative assets, the artwork the App Store can show in the product page header and in search results, are held to the same metadata rules by Guideline 2.3, in its clause 2.3.14 added on October 16, 2026: they must be about your app or brand, be appropriate for all audiences, and leave out references to other apps meant to mislead, unverifiable claims, and specific or discounted prices. This check does not read them.

How to fix it

  1. Work out which platforms your app actually ships on from its targets and destinations.
  2. Capture screenshots at the required size for each, and strip any alpha channel before uploading.
  3. For Apple Watch, pick one size and use it across every localization rather than mixing.

The guidelines behind it

What ReviewAhead checks

Required screenshots. Each platform an app ships on requires screenshots at a specific size.

  • Reads TARGETED_DEVICE_FAMILY, SUPPORTED_PLATFORMS and the presence of a watch target to work out which of iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple TV, Apple Vision Pro and Apple Watch the app ships on.
  • Names the exact pixel dimensions App Store Connect will require for each.
  • Reads which display types already have an uploaded screenshot from App Store Connect when your account is linked, counting a screenshot set only once it holds an asset.

Apple’s own documentation for this requirement: developer.apple.com. Where this page and Apple disagree, Apple is right and this page is a bug.
